The upgrade has been completed.
On Friday, October 6, 2006, during the regularly scheduled maintenance window (5:00 - 7:00 a.m.), ITS will upgrade the PHP Web Service, php.scripts.psu.edu. During this time, very brief outages may be experienced, but are expected to last no more than a minute at any given time. Most major software components, including PHP and Apache, will be upgraded at this time. Additional database support including SQLite version 3 and Sybase/Microsoft SQL Server databases will be introduced. For specific details about the upgrade, please refer to http://php.scripts.psu.edu/errata/phase2build4.html. General information on the service is available at http://php.scripts.psu.edu/.
The new version is now available for testing at the URL http://eng-test.scripts.psu.edu/. The URL structure is the same as php.scripts.psu.edu. For example, a user with userid xyz123 may see his/her Personal Web site at the URL http://eng-test.scripts.psu.edu/xyz123/. ITS would like to encourage users to test features of PHP applications they run from their respective Web spaces on eng-test.scripts.psu.edu to ensure a smooth transition to the new version. If any problems are encountered, please direct reports as soon as possible to dbadmin@aset.psu.edu, so they may be addressed prior to the upgrade to php.scripts.psu.edu on October 6.
In addition, a new discussion/announcement list, l-phpscripts@lists.psu.edu has been created to facilitate discussion for users of the PHP service. Users may subscribe by sending an e-mail from their preferred e-mail address to mailto:l-phpscripts-subscribe-request@lists.psu.edu, and leave the body and subject of the message blank. This list is intended to provide users who employ PHP on their Web sites with a method for discussing PHP problems and challenges with other users and the administrators; it also will serve as the main information dissemination avenue for announcements specific to php.scripts.psu.edu.
