Identity and Access Management Initiative

The Identity and Access Management (IAM) initiative addresses the need for a cohesive and comprehensive identity and access management strategy for Penn State University. The IAM group is comprised of 30 individuals who span many administrative areas at the University.The IAM group's primary goal is to create an identity and access management Roadmap for Penn State by establishing a community of people and of organizations from across the University; individuals who understand each other's pressures, needs, and desires in maintaining and in developing an identity and access management infrastructures to facilitate academic, business and collaborative processes. The recommendations and Roadmap was delivered to the Vice Provost for Information Technology in the first quarter, 2008. Please check the IAM Web site to access the recommendations and Roadmap. Nothing quite like being there

This is the second August of moving what is fast becoming not a child into the residence halls at University Park. I know that President Spanier has long accompanied families and students as they get their first tastes of Penn State and he broadly shares his experiences. His experiences help make Penn State a better place to be, and there is direct impact on improving the boarding process for residence hall students from year to year. My observations and reflections will be old hat for colleagues in student affairs and housing and food services. Even so, I wanted to take the time to share two observations from these past two years. ITS Strategic Plan

The ITS Strategic Plan covering years 2008-09 through 2012-13 has been submitted to the University Planning Office and is available on the ITS strategic plan wiki at https://confluence.et-test.psu.edu/display/stratplan/Home This same site now also has information about two Plan activities that will be done in partnership with the University Libraries. We have tried to make this a collaborative process. Many of our staff attended planning forums or offered comments on the wiki. Members of the senior leadership team met with Campus leaders, members of the faculty, college and campus IT Directors, Outreach and Controllers office representatives and others. A survey of all students, faculty and staff was conducted to gather information on current uses of IT tools and services.
