After the PASS migration is completed on July 7, stand-alone machines may be required to perform an additional step to gain access to the PASS Gateway via smb.pass.psu.edu, win.pass.psu.edu, and nfs.pass.psu.edu. Windows machines (Vista and XP SP2 and SP3) that are stand-alone or in a domain using a local account will not be able to login automatically to PASS, but will need to install a registration key, available at http://aset.its.psu.edu/docs/windows/active_directory/psuksetup.reg in order to access Penn State's authentication realm. Macintosh OSX (Tiger and Leopard) users will require an authentication software package in order to mount PASS, which will be available at https://downloads.its.psu.edu/. The instructions for these steps will be available in the ITS Knowledge Base (KB) at http://kb.its.psu.edu/.
Please note that this issue does not affect the Student Computing Lab machines maintained by the Classroom and Lab Computing (CLC) group (http://clc.its.psu.edu). The Windows and Macintosh machines in the Student Computing Labs will be updated to properly mount the PASS Gateway. This also does not affect Windows Active Directory domains that trust central authentication via the Penn State Access Account User ID and password, such as ACCESS.PSU.EDU and other trusting domains where clients log in with an Access Account user ID and password.
For complete instructions on how to mount PASS after the PASS migration, visit the ITS Knowledge Base (KB) http://kb.its.psu.edu/ and use the search criteria: "Mounting the PASS Gateway." Inquiries and requests for assistance should be directed to the ITS Help Desk at helpdesk@psu.edu. Additional information about the PASS Migration is available at http://alerts.its.psu.edu/alert-740.
