For the third consecutive year, Information Technology Services, WPSU, and the College of Communications collaborated with the largest student-run philanthropy in the world (the IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon) to provide a live videocast of THON 2007 on February 16, 17, and 18. The partnership made THON available via a high-bandwidth multicast throughout the Penn State and Internet2 networks - providing an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to view and participate in the event in ways that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. The videocast was available via low-bandwidth Webcasts (which can be viewed almost anywhere on the Internet) and through WPSU's video feed on the University Park campus cable channel 9.
THON is a year round fund raising event benefiting The Four Diamonds Fund, Conquering Childhood Cancer, at the Penn State Children's Hospital in Hershey, PA. The year's capstone is a two-day dance marathon held every February. Over the past 34 years, the students of THON have raised more than $41 million and have helped thousands of children and families fight pediatric cancer.
