After a successful six-year track record, Penn State's Wireless Expansion Funding program will be discontinued on June 30, 2008. Through the program, Information Technology Services (ITS) provided 50/50 matching funds to University units seeking to expand the wireless coverage of their local area networks. Integrated Backbone connection fees were also waived in this effort. Penn State units can still take advantage of the 50/50 wireless program during the remaining months before the June 30 deadline - if they act soon. To learn more, contact ITS Telecommunications and Networking Services through the Web service inquiry form at http://wireless.psu.edu/departments.html or call 814-865-6580. The existence of the Wireless Expansion Funding program has been instrumental in substantially increasing the extent of wireless coverage areas throughout the University, with many campuses now citing full coverage of high-speed wireless service. Roughly $350,000 has been expended thus far, with additional funds earmarked for support of more Penn State Wireless installations. More information on the discontinuation of the wireless matching and backbone waiver program is available at http://tns.its.psu.edu/hotlinks/wirelessfundingprogram.html.
