The first Network of People (NWOP) meeting was held October 5, 1994 with 29 people in attendance in Room 141 Computer Building. The meetings have steadily grown and attendance as more than tripled over the years. The NWOP meetings are typically held in January, May, and August. The Network of People Steering Committee, sponsored by Information Technology Services (ITS), is responsible for planning and scheduling the University’s NWOP meetings. These meetings are held at various locations around the University Park Campus.
The IT community within Penn State stores a wealth of knowledge. As we face the challenge of limited resources we feel this is an opportunity to share those ideas and solutions with each other in an effort to assure our continued success in the future. If you have presentations or information that you feel would be of interest to this group, please contact Jerry Stimely, Chair of the Network of People Steering Committee.
Network of People Etiquette
Started in 1994, and comprised of a mailing list (L-NWOFP@LISTS.PSU.EDU)
as well as tri-annual meetings, the goal of the Network of People (NWOP) community is to foster collaboration and
information sharing among the IT professionals at Penn State. This goal is achieved through the questions posed and
the honest and respectful answers given; both on the mailing list and in the meetings. Every IT professional at the
University is encouraged to become an active participant in the NWOP. Only with the largest active audience possible
can the Network of People reach its goal.
While striving for this goal, participants must adhere to NWOP etiquette. Simply stated, this etiquette is comprised of University policy and accepted decency standards. On the solicitor's part, be clear, be open and don't be afraid to ask. On the respondent's part, be thoughtful, be courteous, and be honest in your responses. NWOP will not tolerate prejudice, discrimination or intolerance.
By adhering to this etiquette, you will be doing your part to Make Life Better within IT at Penn State.
