A Welcome Message from the Vice Provost for Information Technology
Welcome
to Penn State! I'd like you to know what Information
Technology Services (ITS) is doing to make your use of
information technology more productive, more secure, and more
enjoyable.
So, just what do we do for you?
ITS provides basic information technology services such as networks, computers, and phone systems. We develop all of these resources with your goals in mind.
- You need to access the Internet and Penn State networks, so we provide high-speed networks that can be accessed on or off campus using ethernet, dialup, or wireless connections.
- You need to communicate, so we provide reliable, robust phone, Web, and e-mail systems.
- You want to use technology to enhance teaching and learning, so we offer ANGEL, Turnitin, and many other faculty support services.
- You're here to learn, so we provide tools such as iStudy, multimedia labs, and student computing labs.
- You need to compute and manage your research data, so we help with developing and maintaining several state-of-the-art computational clusters.
- You need to perform daily business transactions such as student registration and accounting, so we provide and support the administrative computing systems.
- And we know that sometimes you might have trouble, so we provide a Help Desk and experts in every area to help you solve problems you may encounter.
How else does ITS help you?
- We provide the Penn State Access Account, your key to a wide variety of secure services at Penn State.
- We offer training services, conferences, seminars, and symposiums, all free or for a nominal fee.
- We offer Web space and file storage space, and the Penn State Portal where you can customize your view of Penn State and the Internet.
- In addition to maintaining the day-to-day IT systems that enable computing and communication, we also continuously investigate emerging technologies, to see if they will help make Penn State's IT services better, more secure, more powerful, and more convenient for you.
We're invested in the present and the future -- but mostly, we're invested in you.
I invite you to browse through our Web site starting at our home page -- http://its.psu.edu/. Review the services that are available to you. If you're new at Penn State, the following Web sites should be helpful:
