Chain Letters Are Not OK
Some people think of chain letters as a harmless diversion. However, Information Technology Services (ITS) views the distribution of chain letters as a serious misuse of university resources. Chain letters require the use of system or server space in order to be stored for the recipient. Space on university computer systems is reserved for university related work.
According to University Policy AD20, Computer and Network Security, "University computer systems are reserved for use only for University-related activities. Transmitting or making accessible offensive, obscene or harassing materials or messages are not University-related activities and are prohibited."
Persons who are found to be sending chain letters may have their accounts locked until they contact either their instructor, the ITS Computer Accounts Office or, for those who are not at University Park, their campus representative. Violation of policy or law may result in suspension of network access or other information service privileges, disciplinary action, and legal proceedings.
Individuals are expected to exercise responsible, ethical behavior when using the University's computers, information, networks or resources. Please see other policies and guidelines related to computer use.
