As you may know, there have been several major computer virus outbreaks recently — and we want to help you protect your computer. The Disinfect Before You Connect CD is available at no cost to students, faculty, and staff. This CD contains virus removal tools and a security patch that will help you keep your computer safe.

If you use a Windows system, obtain and run the Disinfect Before You Connect CD before connecting to the Penn State Network.

See CD pickup locations for information on where to obtain the CD.

You need to know:

  • Only Windows PCs are vulnerable to infection. Macintosh and Linux users are not affected.
  • Windows PCs that connect to the Network without the security patch will most likely be infected within minutes.
  • There are consequences for connecting an infected computer to the Network. All infected computers will be promptly disconnected from the Network.

Spread the word to promote safer computing

After you run the Disinfect Before You Connect CD and know your system is clean, please feel free to share the CD, or you may copy or download the files to a CD and share it with others who use Windows systems.

Note: Please don't share the files via e-mail, as everyone should use the CD to disinfect their computer before connecting to the network/Internet.
