As you may know, there have been several major computer virus outbreaks recently — and
we want to help you protect your computer. The Disinfect
Before You Connect CD is
available at no cost to students, faculty, and staff. This CD contains
virus removal tools and a security patch that will help
you keep your computer safe.
If you use a Windows system, obtain and run the Disinfect
Before You Connect CD before connecting to
the Penn State Network.

on where to obtain the CD.

You need to know:
- Only Windows PCs are vulnerable to infection. Macintosh and Linux users
are not affected.
- Windows PCs that connect to the Network without
the security patch will most likely be infected within minutes.
- There are consequences for connecting an infected computer to the Network.
All infected computers will be promptly disconnected from the Network.

After you run the Disinfect Before You Connect
CD and know your system is clean, please feel free to
share the CD, or you may copy or download the
files to a CD and share it with others who use Windows systems.
Note: Please don't share the files via e-mail, as everyone
should use the CD to disinfect their computer before connecting to
the network/Internet.

Obtain the CD from your RA. Contact the ResCom staff
in your area if you have questions or need assistance:
- Findlay Commons, East Halls
- Pollock Commons, Pollock Halls
- Redifer Commons, South Halls
- Waring Commons, West Halls
- Warnock Commons, North Halls
Note: There are consequences for connecting an infected computer
to the Network. Infected computers may be flagged for excessive bandwidth
consumption due to traffic generated by the virus. All infected computers
will be disconnected from the Network. Computers that have been disconnected
for this reason will only be serviced after all other computers have
been successfully connected. |

Distribution points may vary from campus to campus. Please contact your
local computer support staff to obtain the CD. |
