About the ITS Streaming Server
Streaming, the process of transferring audio and visual information from a server to a Web browser in a steady and continuous stream, is one of the most exciting technologies available today in the field of higher education. It provides faculty and students with the means to share and to access media on the Web any time of day, from anywhere in the world.
Penn State's Information Technology Services (ITS) offers streaming services to all Penn State faculty, staff, and graduate assistants working in resident instruction. Uploading and storing material to stream on a Penn State server is now available at no charge through ITS Streaming Services. Resources to digitize and encode media in preparation for streaming are also available at Penn State, in some cases at no cost.
The ITS Streaming Server is an Apple QuickTime Streaming Server that can stream files in QuickTime format to both Macintosh and Windows desktop environments. An Apple QuickTime Player version 6 or higher is required to view these files.
How do I get a streaming server account?
Faculty who would like to get a streaming server account can simply click the Login link above and if you are currently an instructor of record in LDAP, an account will be created for you automatically. Others may request one by emailing accounts@psu.edu. Department accounts will be available soon and will involve a nominal fee for video storage.
