Step 1 - Prepare

The first step in streaming is to create content. Your content can be a combination of video, audio, animation, and much more.

If your content is already on tape, skip to the digitize step. If you content is available as a computer file, skip to the encode step.

ITS Streaming Services does not provide production services. Penn State does, however, offer resources to help you create various types of media.

  • The Faculty Multimedia Center can help faculty to shoot, digitize, and encode video for the streaming server.
  • You can produce video and audio content by renting recording equipment from Media and Technology Support Services (MTSS).
  • You can edit media in the CLC multimedia labs using a variety of software tools. To find out which CLC labs have appropriate multimedia software and equipment, visit the Student Workstations Lab page (multimedia labs are denoted with an "MM").
  • You can create animation and PowerPoint presentations using software available in the CAC computer labs.
  • You can also have a for-fee production unit such as WPSU-TV shoot video for your project.
