What is spyware?
Similar to someone looking over your shoulder and writing down information about what you do online, Spyware (a type of software that is implanted on your computer without your knowledge) secretly transmits information about your online activity and the data stored on your computer. Spyware is often installed as a component of freeware programs. Remember to take caution in downloading freeware or accepting free downloads. Learn how to protect yourself.

I've been infected. Actually, it's my computer system that's been infected. My computer started slowing down, strange things started to happen like pop-up windows and random web pages opening up all over the place. And then it started to lock-up. I couldn't figure it out, so I called the help desk -- they said it sounded like spyware. They said I could prevent future problems by taking control. Turns out that spyware infects almost 80% of PCs. From now on I'm following the take control steps to stay safe.
