Information Technology Services provides basic Web hosting for faculty, staff, and students. In addition, Web hosting and content management services are available to departments, faculty and staff.

Web servers are managed in a 24-7 secure environment, with redundant power sources, HVAC systems, monitoring, troubleshooting, upgrading, patching, and daily backups of all data, with off-site disaster recovery capability. Services are compatible with Linux, Macintosh, Unix, or Windows systems.

Web Hosting

Cost efficient Web hosting services for Penn State students, faculty and staff.  Technologies supported includes HTML, SSI, CGI, PHP, SSL, WebAccess, Blogs and more.  Hosting is available for:

• Personal Web Space: Every individual with a full Penn State Access Account is eligible to apply for personal Web space at no additional cost.
• Student Organization Web Space: Officially recognized or affiliated student organizations may request Web space for their organization at no additional cost.
• Course Web Space: Course instructors may request Web space for instructional use at no additional cost.
• Department Web Space: Faculty, staff and departments can purchase Web server space for a nominal fee.
• Virtual Web Hosting: Faculty, staff and departments can request domain names within psu.edu for Web hosting with Department Web space for a nominal fee.

• Using the Virtual Machine Hosting service, faculty, staff and departments can lease a virtual computer capable of running a Web server and other applications. Experienced system administrators can install the operating system, configure software according to your requirements, set up networking and security, and establish your unique domain name. This service allows for customization such as deployment of most open source software or other specialized support.

Web Content Management

• The WebLion Content Management System is a comprehensive solution to manage Web pages, news and events, contact information, visual design, and navigation. WebLion is integrated with Penn State network services including WebAccess. Third party and custom applications can be added to create new features and functionality. The WebLion team provides many support options. Host WebLion on your own servers, or on ours.
